California Maternal Fetal Medicine is a comprehensive maternal-fetal medicine practice serving women and families of Folsom, Redding, Chico, Sacramento, and Davis, California, who have high-risk pregnancies. Under the leadership of Marwan Ali, MD, MBA, FACOG, FACMG, the maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) subspecialists offer compassionate care for each pregnant patient with chronic health conditions and unexpected problems during their pregnancy while their body changes and their baby grows.

Dr. Ali brings a wealth of experience to the practice. He graduated magna cum laude, receiving a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine of Alexandria in Alexandria, Egypt. Dr. Ali also earned a Master of Business Administration from SC Johnson College of Business at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

He went on to complete his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. He also completed a fellowship in medical genetics from the University of California, San Francisco, and a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

Dr. Ali is a member of many organizations, including the International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis, the International Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the American College of Medical Genetics.

We are a California State-approved Prenatal Diagnostic Center (PDC)

The California Prenatal Screening (PNS) Program focuses on detecting birth defects during pregnancy.

The PNS program works to ensure that prenatal screening services and follow-up diagnostic services, where indicated, are available to all pregnant women in California. Prenatal screening identifies individuals at increased risk for carrying a fetus with a specific birth defect. The PNS Program provides pregnant women with a risk assessment for open neural tube defects (NTD), Down syndrome (trisomy 21), trisomy 18 and SLOS (Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome) through one or two blood tests.

The program currently offers three types of prenatal screening tests to pregnant women in order to identify individuals who are at increased risk for carrying a fetus with a specific birth defect. The fee for the Prenatal Screening Program is $221.60, whether a woman has one or two blood tests.

The screening test indicates risk, but does not diagnose fetal birth defects. For women with screening results indicating a high risk for a birth defect, the Program provides free follow-up diagnostic services at State-approved Prenatal Diagnostic Centers. Services offered at these Centers include genetic counseling, ultrasound, and amniocentesis. Participation in the screening tests and follow-up services is voluntary.
